The Weight of Glory - Selection 2 (The Time is Now)

In this, my second selection from C.S. Lewis' excellent, The Weight of Glory, Lewis makes note of two obstacles, of no small significance, which stand against any great undertaking. I greatly felt the weight of the first during the season leading up to the incorporation and launch of Abort73, and the second has plagued me ever since the venture was finally undertaken. Be reminded that the present is all we can be assured of, so as we dream of all that lies ahead, may we not neglect the opportunities of today...
If we let ourselves, we shall always be waiting for some distraction or other to end before we can really get down to our work. The only people who achieve much are those who want knowledge so badly that they seek it while the conditions are still unfavourable. Favourable conditions never come.
*** Never, in peace or war, commit your virtue or your happiness to the future. Happy work is best done by the man who takes his long-term plans somewhat lightly and works from moment to moment "as unto the Lord". It is our daily bread that we are encouraged to ask for. The present is the only time in which any duty can be done or grace received (60,61).
