I became pregnant at age 15. My parents and I decided on an abortion. The years that followed were riddled with depression, substance abuse, promiscuity and self-hatred. I went on to have four more abortions. They had a compounding effect that was so detrimental to my mental health. I still struggle to this day. I have been in therapy for a good part of my adult life. I feel certain that my poor mental health had its beginning with the first abortion. I desperately wish I could make that decision over.
